Grammy has a Hickey!

Grammy and Gramps are visiting from Idaho. Grammy held Lydia cheek to cheek and Lydia promptly turned and began sucking on said cheek. "Oh, how cute!" we exclaimed and watched the baby nibble on Grammy for a few minutes. Grammy removed the baby to reveal a HUGE hickey on her cheek!

"Wow, that baby has a strong sucking reflex" exclaimed the crowd. "Tell me about it!" replies Lydia's poor breast feeding mother.

Too Early to Tutu?

My sister made fun of me for this one. She saw the tutu and commented about it being for a Halloween costume. My response, "Tutu's are every day wear! To prove the point, Lydia is celebrating her 4 week birthday with a tutu and a trip to Panera to visit a friend whose baby shares her birthday. Big milestone for today include moving from preemie size diapers to newborns and the adorable brown onesie she has on (sent from a specialty store for preemies and sized for 5 pounds only) barely fits. We will have to find an equally cute brown onesie in newborn size. Seeing as this Friday was my due date, I like the idea that we are now in newborn sizes!

Pacified to Perfection

On the advice of our lactation consultant, we cut out bottles and pacifiers several weeks ago. Both were introduced around the same time that Lydia refused to nurse. Now that nursing is going better, and we will be reintroducing an occasional bottle next week, I went ahead and tried the pacifier again. We already knew Lydia liked it, but I was relieved to see that she is still nursing well. Hopefully, it will help alot with her fussing at night. I'm getting tired of her needing to suck on my finger, or other parts!

Welcome Party!

If you have ever been to my house, you know that this is a BIG crowd to have over for dinner! PJ invited Lydia's aunts and great aunts and great, great aunts (and their significant others) over for a cookout. We provided the hot dogs and fixins and everyone (and I mean EACH and EVERY) person brought a dessert. I did not get thst memo, so I made sure to also have plenty of sweets on hand. So much for the post pregnsncy diet plan.

Me and Liddy B.

Finally, a mother and daughter picture! I had to request that PJ take one, usually I am the one with the camera. Lydia and I were all dressed up for a video interview at the birth cener. They are raising funds and trying to raise awareness with a video featuring recent clients. I was happy to gush about my birth experience and how much I appreciated the midwives and lactation consultants. Hopefully I will get to see the video when its finished.

PJ and Lydia sat on the porch while daddy told his little girl all about the different bug and animal sounds that she was hearing.

Labor and Delivery Pictures

My water broke at 3:45 am on June 25th, 5 weeks before Lydia's due date. Because she was early, we had to go to the hospital instead of the birth center. Thankfully a midwife from the birth center met us at the hospital, oversaw my labor, and delivered Lydia at 7:01pm. Lots of family and friends took lots of pictures during our hospital stay. Those pictures were uploaded to a different webside. Here is the link, if you would like to see more pictures from Lydia's first few days of life.
